It is an honor to serve as chairperson of the 2009 Combined Federal Campaign. Those of you new to federal employment may not know that the CFC is the most successful charitable workplace fund raiser in the nation. That success is due in no small measure to the spirit of service which drew many of us to federal employment in the first place.

In West Michigan, we share many blessings. In addition to enjoying great natural beauty, we share many common values, including faith, family, and a sense of community. These core values bind us together and help define who we are.

These are challenging times in Michigan and all across our nation. But it is how we respond in the face of such challenges that most clearly reveals our character. Please join me in demonstrating the values that make West Michigan such a great place to live.

A small gesture by you can make a huge difference in the life of someone in need. And there are more people in need in our community now than perhaps at any time since the Great Depression. Through the CFC, you can help any of the thousands of organizations – including more than 150 right here in West Michigan – that deliver crucial goods and services to people in need. Together, we can make a difference and make West Michigan an even better place for us all.
