Sharon A. Turek has served as an Assistant Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Michigan since its inception in 1996. Prior to that, she worked for the Office of Public Advocacy, a public defender office in northern Michigan serving Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, and Presque Isle Counties. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duquesne University and a Juris doctor degree from the Thomas M Cooley Law School. She is licensed to practice law in the state of Michigan and is admitted to practice in the federal courts for the Western District of Michigan and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals
