Interim Federal Defender
Grand Rapids, MI

Ms. Turek was appointed as the Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Michigan on August 3, 2016. She has been with the Federal Public Defender's Office since 1996, serving in various positions, including Interim Federal Public Defender, August 2015 to 2016; First Assistant Federal Public Defender, 2007 to 2015; and Assistant Federal Public Defender, 1996 to 2007. Prior to joining the Federal Public Defender's Office, Ms. Turek was a public defender in Michigan state courts from 1991 to 1995. She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Ms. Turek has been active in the Western District's reentry programs. She has also served as an officer of the Executive Committee for the Western Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duquesne University in 1980 and a Juris Doctor degree from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 1990.
